Biography

Ryan Billia has led an eclectic life and has always tried to find a balance amongst his many passions, most notably, dance, music, film, and art.

Ryan started playing drums at 8 and began DJing in high school. All the while
he was studying ballet and modern dance in some of the most notable
schools in the country. After graduating from The North Carolina School of the Arts, he danced professionally in Hartford and San Francisco until an injury cut his career short.

He enrolled in the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, dual-majoring
in both Music Production and Engineering (MP&E) and Music Synthesis. While
there he received both the KAO Infosystems Award (MP&E) and the BT
Production Award (Music Synthesis). He graduated summa cum laude in May 2007.

His interest in music varies from rock, pop, classical, and jazz to experimental
styles such as acousmatic, glitch, minimalist, stochastic, and ambient. He
explores sound in all its forms, acoustic and electronic, as well as how sound can enhance the moving image. He is enthralled with the bourgeoning “sound art” scene and experiments with programming and physical computing. Ryan has produced and engineered artists ranging from dance and rock to folk and jazz, engineered location recordings for orchestras and chamber groups, and worked as a sound designer and mixer for commercial advertising, TV, and short and full-length film.

Ryan lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife Anna and their 2 cats Fanny and Alexander. He is currently the chief engineer and sound designer at Bang in NYC.
